Documentary preview: “Bartitsu - the Lost Martial Art of Sherlock Holmes”

Posted by biohubieran on 18 января 2011

A preview trailer for the upcoming documentary exploring the cultural history, rediscovery and modern revival of EW Barton-Wright’s “New Art of Self Defence”. Founded in London in 1899, Bartitsu was an early example of a mixed martial art, combining boxing, jiujitsu, savate and self defence with a walking stick. After a brief heyday, it was all but forgotten throughout the 20th century except for a single cryptic reference in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes story, “the Adventure of the Empty House”. Shot on location in Italy, Switzerland, England and the USA, “Bartitsu: the Lost Martial Art of Sherlock Holmes” is presented by Tony Wolf and features interviews with Dr. Emelyne Godfrey, Harry Cook, Graham Noble, Will Thomas, Mark Donnelly and Neal Stephenson.

The Importance of Gaining Link Popularity

Posted by biohubieran on 13 января 2011

Link popularity makes up one aspect of SEO (search engine optimisation), which is all about increasing the amount of traffic to your website in order to make it more popular within the search engines. It is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimisation. Without it the search engines assume that you don’t really have much to offer and therefore won’t rank your site in the best positions in the search results.

You may have the best website relating to your subject area but you won’t be successful without any inbound links. But what exactly is link popularity? It relates to the number of incoming links to your website. These can come from a number of places such as business directories, web directories, articles and of course from other websites that relate to your site. To put it in simple terms, it is like a vote of confidence from one site to another.

The reason that it is such an important part of the SEO process is down to the fact that the search engines like to rank sites that are popular, so if you have links coming into your website from a variety of others, this tells the search engines that your site must have something to offer your viewing audience and that it is trusted. So with this in mind the more inbound links that your site has the better the website link popularity is. However these links shouldn’t just come from anywhere; you need good quality links coming into your website if you want to be picked up by the search engines and these links should be coming from websites that hold some sort of relevance to your site.

Two of the main ways that link popularity takes place is through two-way link exchanges and one-way submission. Two way is when a link will be added to your website that takes the visitor to another website and a link back to your website will be placed on their website. One-way submission is when links back to your website are added to aspects such as directories but there is no need for a link to be placed on your site that takes the visitor back to the directory.

As well as the above two methods, you can also increase your link popularity through aspects such as article writing. By writing and submitting articles to article directories people will use these articles on their websites so when people visit their site they could potentially end up at your site.

One of the most important aspects of this form of SEO however is making sure you are gaining inbound links from sites that are relevant to yours. So if your site is promoting certain products or services or providing information about a particular niche market then you need to ensure that you are exchanging links with sites that are also based within this niche market so you are reaching out to the right target audience.

Link popularity is valuable to your search ranking so when you are undertaking your Internet marketing make sure you include it. Just follow the tips that are mentioned above and you should have no problem when it comes to gaining inbound links to your website.

Which Sony Headphones Are Right For You?

Posted by biohubieran on 12 января 2011

Are you ready to find a new pair of headphones for your iPod, MP3 player, stereo, or even you’re TV but don’t know where to look? Don’t fret! There are manufacturers coming out with new headset options on a regular basis, which leaves your options wide open. One of those manufacturers is Sony. They have been in business for many years as a leader in electronics and have plenty of options in headphones for their consumers. So without further ado, let’s take a closer look at Sony headphones!

About Sony Headphones

The Sony Corporation is broken up into various segments that manage varying areas of economic growth. Their Sony Group segment manages financial services, entertainment, games and electronics - and electronics is where you can find their headphones. They offer tons of variety in their headsets, including noise cancelling and wireless. So let’s take a look at the options they have to offer so that you can better decide what Sony headphones would be a good match for you.

Over the Ear

Over-the-ear (or circumaural) headphones are popular for those who want to block out noises around them to strictly tune in to their music. There are several different Sony headphones models that come in this style. Here is one:

MDR D777LP Altus Headphones - These headphones are said to offer great passive noise blocking. They will work well for those who travel often and need to block out the sounds of babies crying and engines revving up. Feature-wise, they offer 80 KHz frequency response, earcups that are leather-padded and fold up into the headband, and a switchable diaphragm that either can block out noise from the outside world, or let a little in depending on the position it is in. One of the negatives of this product is that the cups tend to fit rather tightly (I guess to seal in the style). This can be problematic for those with slightly larger ears for they can offer a rather uncomfortable fit. Also, the bass in these phones are said to not be as present as in other brands. Remember to take all of the pros and cons of this product into consideration - including its $150 price tag - when making your decision to buy.

On the Ear

On-the-ear headphones sit right on the ear and are often good for allowing you to hear the music well, though they may not block out as much outside noise as the over-the-ear style. Here are a few Sony headphones that offer this on-the-ear style:

DR-BT22 - This model is Bluetooth-enabled, which means it is wireless so if your cell phone is Bluetooth compatible, you can answer your phone with this headset then switch over to listening to music on your phone if you like. It also comes with a remote that allows you to control the headset’s basic functions. When you’re not using it, you can charge its rechargeable batteries and when you’re ready to store it, you can fold it up easily and pack it away.

DR-BT21G/B - This model is also Bluetooth-enabled (which is definitely what’s hot nowadays). Similar to the DR-BT22 model, they allow you to move about freely without being held back by wires - always a bonus. They also have rechargeable batteries that, when fully charged, allow you to have up to 11 hours of playback time. They are of a slightly different style than the BT22s, however, because they sit behind the neck instead of over the head. This can be good for some and not-so-good for others - it truly depends on our preference. But at least you have tons of options, such as remote control and built-in microphone that allows you to record your own voice.

In the Ear

In-the-ear headphones, or earbuds, are very popular among those who enjoy taking their music outdoors with them. They are lighter, easier to wear (in most cases) and allow you to hear more around you (also, in most cases). There are many in-the-ear Sony headphones available. Here are just a few:

DR-EX151 - These headphones were created largely to be used with the virtual world. They can work well with internet telephone service, internet chat, internet meetings and even your phones voice recognition. They have an EX design (hence the name) that is said to help reduce surrounding noise, which creates a clearer sound. The earbud itself, or inner ear headphone, is 9 mm in size, which means it should be able to fit in the smallest of ears. While they are very versatile in their use, they do not provide the mobility many might want for they are not wireless. But for the price tag - $14.95 - some people might say the lack of freedom is worth it.

DR-BT10CX Bluetooth® Stereo Earbud Headset - Where the DR-EX151 may have been lacking (in mobility, mostly) the DR-BT10CX Bluetooth Stereo Earbuds definitely pick up the slack. They don’t do it at a cheap price however (average cost is $99). But before you run away screaming, let’s see what you get for your money. The first thing is freedom of movement. Because they have Bluetooth technology they allow you to link them to your favorite Bluetooth-enabled A2DP device, whether it is your cell phone, PC, iPod, MP3 player or stereo. With these Sony headphones, you get up to 11 hours of talk or music listening time and when you’re not using them you get up to 100 hours of standby time on a full charge - impressive! Most importantly, if you want to go out and exercise or jog, you can wear these earbuds while listening to your mobile device without having to worry about getting tangled in wires, or wearing some awkward contraption on your head.

No matter what style or model of Sony headphones you are interested in buying, there is no doubt that you have a ton of options to choose from (many more than mentioned in this article). The best way to choose which ones are the best for you is to go to your local store and test them out for the best fit, sound quality, and which give you the features you want. After that, you will be able to bring your Sony headphones home to enjoy them with the knowledge that you found the best ones for you.

Ice Hockey Training - How to Be the Best

Posted by biohubieran on 10 января 2011

How does a hockey player nowadays make the NHL (National Hockey League)? This is a very important question as hockey players are entering the NHL at such a young age in this 21st century. In other words, how does a hockey player rise above the rest? The answer is actually quite simple.

The better hockey player:

  • Learns faster
  • Trains smarter
  • Improves tremendously each year
  • Trains to improve as quick as he can
  • Is more competitive and wants to win more than anyone else
  • Loves the game and is willing to do what it takes to be great
  • Studies the best players in the world
  • Is exposed to proper training equipment
  • Is passionate about the game and continually wants to learn more

These are only some of the attributes of a great player. We can put these attributes into categories. One category could be the uncontrollable qualities. Being passionate, and loving the game are uncontrollable. Too bad that if you are not born with these feelings than you are not going to the NHL. However, if you are born with them, there are many things you can do to feed your “fire” and improve at a faster rate than the rest.

One thing you can do is work on the mental game. A great way to do this is to watch what the pros do. When I say watch, I mean study and analyze, rewind and watch in slow motion. Do what the pros do and have what the pros have.

Another way to improve faster than the rest is to use old and new training tools to tune up your skills. One of the best hockey training tools out there right now is the Tape-2-Tape. Tape-2-Tape allows you to work on your passing, stickhandling, and one-timers without needing a partner.

At http://www.hockeywithjon.com, Jon C. studies the pros and teaches his viewers for free. He interacts with his viewers and likes to work with aspiring hockey players or with people who just want to learn about the game.

You can also watch videos on how to properly use the Tape-2-Tape Hockey Training System to improve your one-timers from all angles or perhaps your backhand passing accuracy. You also have the option of purchasing a Tape-2-Tape.
